This has to be one of my most embarrassing stories I’m willing to share with the world 🌎: The one time I was so dumb enough and ended up with my first ever panic attack experience.
Picture me, a 15 year old at the time, just being all excited that the school year has finally ended (and thinking of ways to celebrate, school sucks!).
It all took place on the very last day of my sophomore year in high school. I went to school that day to pick up the dreadful summer homework my teachers pilled on me every year and to give goodbye hugs to my friends. We were allowed to leave earlier than usual which I was so happy about, I literally sprinted to the exit. I was planning to return my library book after school so I hopped onto the bus that took me there.
I was pretty happy and chill just sitting on the bus with like 3 other people feelings so cool. There’s a 7/11 near the library so I stopped by there to pick up a Slurpee. Slurpee’s were like the ish. So I made my way to the library slurping it loud and clear trying to draw attention to my very fancy cup of slurp?.. Anyways so I’m making my way downtown walking fast faces pass and I’m home-bound… (Hehehe 🙂 ) nahh but I was making my way to the library and all of a sudden a man with a bike is just standing there, and mind you there was nobody, not a single soul on the block and this man was just standing there! With a bike!
He wore a blue shirt and white shorts that looked raggedy.. or maybe it was a white shirt and raggedy blue shorts, I just remember the colors he was wearing. He had his hair braided in corn rows going back. He seemed about 20 years old, (remember I was 15 at the time) I can’t quite remember his face but I knew he was ugly af.🤢
He tried to hit on me, talking about sup ma. Or maybe some other weird phrase… he was just trying to hit on me, and one thing my sister taught me was to just ignore. I was really a pro at that, so I just ignored him and continued drinking my Slurpee.
The library being so close I thought yes I can escape and never see this man ever again in my life. But no! The universe wanted to ruin my day and the library was closed. It wasn’t open for another hour. I was so embarrassed, so I just think to go home I mean It was 2 blocks away from the library I’ll just go back later. So I’m walking thinking everything was fine then something tells me to look behind me. This man is LITERALLY following me on his bike! He yells Imma get you bitch!
My heart began beating too fast as I am fucking TERRIFIED!! So I begin to panic and speed walk but wtf Leah he’s on a bike df are you doing! and guess where I sped to… you ever seen those construction thingies that you walk under and it’s dark? Yeah I walked right under there! WTF Leah like seriously wtf were you thinking! There was a corner store literally across the street! WHYYYYY! Seconds later my life flashes before my eyes the world is spinning and I’m staring at the floor where the straw I was just biting lies. This man hits me so incredibly hard in the back of my head I literally thought I done died and went to hell.
He says something to me that I don’t remember and just rides off. I really didn’t know what to do with myself so I start hyperventilating, my cheeks are hot af and involuntary tears starts rolling down my face, my hands are shaking and I’m literally running home. I came home crying and panicking not even able to speak, and my mom is yelling at me asking me wtf happened and I’m over here getting even more scared. It was so dramatic lmfao! But finally I was able to get the words out and after a solid hour she convinced me to go to the police station. I thought it was unnecessary like really wtf can they do.
So yeah that was the story of the time I got hit on (literally) and stalked home by a weirdo man, oh and had my first panic attack.
Here are a few things I should’ve done differently and things that you should do if you get caught in a situation like mine. (I’m no expert so don’t sue me! 😩)
- Wear headphones 🎧 that way the creep can just think that you didn’t hear them hitting on you… not that you’re ignoring them. (You don’t have to actually be listening to music)
- Pretend you’re on the phone 📱 or call someone asking to talk to you until you get to somewhere safe.
- If there is a store, market, or any public place near you walk in and ask for help.
- Ask anyone for help, scream if you have to!
Okay well that’s all I have to say about that… what would you have done differently than me if you were in that situation? Leave your thoughts in the comments! Thank You <3
